The paper by Giorgio Varanini and Peter H. Feindt titled “Policy Design for Resilience? An assessment of the bioeconomy policy mix addressing the maize bio-based production system in Italy” analyses how bioeconomy and agricultural policies in Italy shape the resilience of the maize bio-based production system. The study finds diverging resilience orientations: agricultural policies emphasise robustness and adaptability, while bioeconomy policies prioritise transformability. As a result, transformability-oriented goals are likely to materialise further up the value chain rather than at production-system level. The paper highlights important tensions but also opportunities to improve coherence between bioeconomy and agricultural policy mixes. The publication is accessible under this Link.
